Why I Chose Music Data?

I'm the type of person who is always listening to music: whether I'm working, commuting, excersing, etc. I always have Spotify up and my favorite tunes on. Creating a data visualization project based around my love for music just felt right. In addition, I've worked on Music Information Retrieval (MIR) researcher problems for the past two years. This work required me to learn the ins and out of music from a much more technical perspective: from organizing large-scale music collections, to music recommendation systems, to automatically identifying sematic tags from music audio. I used these experience and my newfound understanding of data visualization to create the Music Atlas.
